REGION OF PERNIK
Pernik district consists of six municipals and is located 30 km southwest of the capital. The population in the region is 144 104 people, main part of whom is concentrated in the towns ? 75.5%. During the last years in the economical development of Pernik district was conducted a long process of property change, closing of old manifactures, investitions in new aspects and activities. The unemployment rate in Pernik district varies between 16.5% and 26.6% and is due mainly to the reforming of the regional economy – liquidation and privatization of state-owned firms from the public sector and reorientation towards service sector and light industry manifactures. A huge part of the young people is in danger of social isolation due to the general and regional crisis.
This has also impact on the education ? reorientation towards satisfying the labour market needs and development of the new communications ? Information technologies.
In Pernik region there are 45 schools /9 vocational high schools, 3 gymnasiums, 22 secondary school, 9 elementary schools of general education, 1 primary school, 1 school for children with special educational needs (SEN)/. The professional schools cover the need in the region for cadres in the fields of personal services, business administration, physical sciences, informatics, techniques, agriculture, transport and environmental protection.

The main problems in the education and lack of motivation for studying, absence from school, aggressive acts, bad discipline, insufficient parents? involvement, insufficient cooperation between schools and business and others.
REGION OF STEREA ELLADA
As far as the economy is concerned, the region is mainly agricultural and industrial. The Civil Service Section is also significant.
In all sections there is a reduction of working positions due to the financial crisis as well as the delayed adjustment to the new European and international data. An ageing of population is observed and a parallel reduction in the number of students especially in the more decentralized schools. There is an increase in the number of immigrants, who have reached the 10% of the active labor force, and whose children either don?t attend school at all or abandon school before they complete their compulsory studies.
The old-fashioned pedagogical school system and the slow adjustment of schools to the rapidly created data, act as an obstacle to the personal and professional development of students .
The cooperation of the two regions will help towards the better understanding of the two peoples, the exchange of good school practices and the improvement of the key competences.
